Background
Jay was raised in what many would consider to be an abusive home, though no one knows it. She came from money, but with that came great expectations, expectations that if not met had great consequences. Failures were met with abuse and successes were practically ignored. Her parents paraded her around like some sort of prize in front of their friends, but ignored her otherwise, placating her with money instead of love and attention. Her younger sister, on the other hand, was lavished with love and affection, a clear favorite of their father. Because of this, and the violence that she often found herself on the other side of in her youth, she became characterized as very rebellious. Where her twin brother took things to a darker place, Jay took things in stride, becoming more of an outgoing and vivacious person compared to her brother's uptight approach to things.

Jay was away at college when she found out the truth about her father. She was doing some research for a book she was writing on, a fictional piece about the upper crust of Manhattan, and she came across a newspaper article that caught her eye. It was about a death that happened in 1998, a wealthy man who had met his end in a freak car accident leaving behind his wife and two children. The reason this article caught her attention was because of the photograph of the man who had died. He looked identical to her father.

They say that everyone has a doppelganger, and for a while she convinced herself that that was all this was, but it was too much of a coincidence. For most of her youth, her father had traveled all the time on business, but suddenly, in 1998, he no longer had the need to travel. And so she began snooping around, intent upon finding out the truth behind this mystery man and his family. What she found out came as a bit of a shock.

Her father had been living a double life. He had a family in Manhattan in addition to the family he had in Beverly Hills. Daniel McGaven wasn't even his real name, it was Elijah McCafferty, apparently. Or maybe that wasn't his real name either. But when he got tired of the act, got tired of playing the role of Elijah, he had faked his own death, with the assistance of Jay's mother no less, and had left that life behind. Julia was in on the entire thing and Jay had another brother and sister that she had never known about.

Jay didn't confront her father. She had wanted to. She'd wanted to confront him and her mother both. But instead of doing that, she put in for a transfer from UCLA to UMASS in Boston after finding out that her sister and her nephew, apparently she had one of those too, were living just outside of the city in a town called Danvers. She arrived at the start of Spring term in 2009 but poor weather and an apparent viral outbreak kept her from visiting the campus of the school they were attending. And perhaps she was nervous too. She had never gotten along with her brother or sister very well so she couldn't expect much from a sibling she'd never even known.

After finally getting up the nerve to go meet her sister and her nephew, she discovered that there was no real way onto the campus without enrolling herself. So Jay dropped out of UMASS and registered at TJS. At least this way, she can take her time and get to know Raquel and Devon before telling them who she really is.

Gifts Jay is not as powerful a witch as her mother, but she is quite skilled. She is rather dedicated to practicing and honing her skills. As for the demon part of her, she can manipulate fire fairly well, a skill she's learned from her father.
Weaknesses Because her focus has always been dark magic, as this is what her mother's family has always practiced, white magic harms her deeply as do holy items/beings. This is enhanced by the fact that she is part demon as well. And since that side of her has the element of fire, she is very sensitive to cold and ice.
